About the Role
Our client is looking for a proactive, energetic and target-driven Sales Associate to drive the adoption of mobile money products and Point-of-Sale (POS) solutions within Lusaka. The successful candidate will be responsible for acquiring new merchants, selling and deploying POS devices, supporting merchant onboarding and building strong relationships with retailers and merchants within an assigned territory.

This is a hands-on, field-based sales role that requires someone who is comfortable working in the market every day, actively prospecting for new business, engaging directly with retailers and merchants, negotiating and closing sales, and following up to ensure continued product adoption.

The Sales Associate will be expected to take ownership of their assigned territory, consistently achieve sales and activity targets, and provide a high level of support to merchants throughout the onboarding and early usage stages.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive the adoption of mobile money products among retailers and merchants within the assigned territory.

  • Actively prospect for and acquire new merchants for mobile money and POS services.

  • Conduct regular field visits to identify new business opportunities and potential customers.

  • Meet daily, weekly and monthly sales and activity targets.

  • Follow up consistently with prospective merchants and convert leads into active customers.

  • Sell and deploy POS devices to retailers and merchants.

  • Explain POS products, features, benefits, pricing and services clearly to prospective merchants.

  • Support merchants through the onboarding and activation process.

  • Ensure merchants are properly set up and understand how to use POS devices and related services.

  • Follow up with newly onboarded merchants to encourage early and continued product usage.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with retailers and merchants within the assigned territory.

  • Identify new sales opportunities within the territory and follow up consistently until closed.

  • Maintain regular contact with existing and prospective merchants.

  • Understand merchant needs and recommend appropriate products and services.

  • Negotiate pricing and commercial terms with merchants within approved company guidelines.

  • Close sales and ensure all required merchant documentation is completed accurately.

  • Maintain accurate records of merchant visits, leads, sales and follow-ups.

  • Monitor competitor activity and provide relevant market feedback to management.

  • Maintain accurate sales and merchant records using Google Sheets, Google Docs, Google Slides or similar tools.

  • Prepare and submit regular sales and activity reports as required.

  • Schedule meetings and follow-ups with prospective and existing merchants.

  • Draft professional emails and other business correspondence when required.

  • Ensure all sales and merchant information is accurately captured and submitted on time.

  • Identify and resolve basic merchant onboarding or product adoption challenges, escalating issues where necessary.

  • Maintain a high level of customer service and professionalism when dealing with merchants.

  • Perform any other sales and business development-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma or equivalent qualification.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in field sales, mobile money, POS sales or a related sales environment.

  • Experience in mobile money, POS sales or field sales within Zambia.

  • Previous experience working directly with retailers, merchants or small businesses is highly desirable.

  • Proven experience working towards and achieving sales targets.

  • Strong understanding of field sales, customer acquisition and territory management.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust quickly with merchants.

  • Strong negotiation, persuasion and sales closing skills.

  • Comfortable working in the field on a daily basis and engaging directly with retailers and merchants.

  • Proactive, target-driven and results-oriented.

  • Good organisational and time management skills.

  • Ability to manage a territory effectively and follow up on multiple leads.

  • Comfortable negotiating pricing and commercial terms directly with merchants within approved guidelines.

  • Strong proficiency in Google Sheets, Google Slides and Google Docs or similar productivity tools.

  • Good professional email writing and communication skills.

  • Ability to schedule and coordinate meetings effectively.

  • High level of integrity, professionalism and accountability.

  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with the wider sales team.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and target-driven environment.
