About the role:
Our Client is looking for a Butchery Assistant that supports the daily operations of a butcher shop or meat department by preparing, handling, and packaging meat products, assisting customers, and maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards, as well as driving sales in the butchery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in cutting, trimming, and preparing meat products (beef, pork, poultry, etc.)
- Drive sales in the butchery
- Must be Computer literate
- Weigh, package, label, and price meat items for sale
- Ensure proper storage of meat according to food safety regulations
- Maintain cleanliness of work areas, tools, and equipment
- Help display products in an attractive and organized manner
- Serve customers, answer questions, and provide basic product recommendations
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages to the supervisor
- Follow health, safety, and hygiene standards at all times
Minimum Qualifications/ Traits:
- Grade 12 Certificate
- Must be computer literate
- Sales experience
- Basic knowledge of meat cuts and handling (training can be provided)
- Ability to use knives and butchery equipment safely
- Good physical stamina (standing for long hours, lifting heavy items)
- Strong attention to hygiene and cleanliness
- Good customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work in a team
- Previous experience in a butchery or retail environment is an advantage
Working Conditions:
- Work in a cold environment (refrigerated areas)
- May include weekends and holidays
- Requires use of protective clothing (gloves, aprons, etc.)
Compensation:
The incumbent will receive a competitive salary commensurate with experience.
