About the role:
Our client is seeking a Senior Human Resources Officer responsible for leading and managing all HR functions within the Zambia operation. The role ensures compliance with Zambian labour legislation, supports business objectives through effective people management practices, promotes positive employee relations, and drives initiatives that enhance employee performance, engagement, and organisational culture.
Key Responsibilities:
Employee and Labour Relations
- Manage employee relations matters including grievances, disciplinary actions, disputes, and investigations.
- Provide expert advice on labour legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Represent the company in labour matters with relevant authorities and external stakeholders.
- Facilitate conflict resolution and maintain positive employer-employee relationships.
- Monitor industrial relations risks and proactively implement mitigation strategies.
- Ensure fair, consistent, and legally compliant application of disciplinary procedures.
Recruitment and Talent Management
- Oversee recruitment, selection, and onboarding processes.
- Ensure positions are filled with suitably qualified candidates within agreed timelines.
- Support management in identifying and developing high-potential employees.
- Maintain effective talent retention initiatives.
Compliance and Governance
- Ensure compliance with all applicable Zambian labour laws and regulations.
- Maintain and update HR policies, procedures, and employee records.
- Ensure statutory reporting requirements are met.
- Support internal and external audits relating to HR matters.
- Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in all HR activities.
Employee Engagement and Culture
- Drive employee engagement initiatives and wellbeing programmes.
- Promote company values and a positive workplace culture.
- Conduct employee surveys and implement improvement initiatives.
- Foster effective communication between management and employees.
HR Reporting and Administration
- Prepare monthly HR reports and workforce analytics.
- Monitor key HR metrics including turnover, absenteeism, disciplinary trends, recruitment, and training.
- Maintain accurate HR information and personnel records.
- Provide management with data-driven recommendations to support decision-making.
Minimum Requirements:
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial Psychology, Business Administration, Labour Relations, or a related field.
Experience
- Minimum of 4–6 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 2 years in a senior HR role.
- Experience within the mining and construction environment or a highly unionised environment is advantageous.
- Proven experience managing employee relations and labour disputes.
- Member of ZIHRM
Knowledge
- Strong understanding of Zambian labour legislation and employment practices.
- Sound knowledge of performance management, recruitment, training, and compensation principles.
- Understanding of organisational development and change management practices.
