About the role:
Our client is seeking a Planner that will be responsible for developing, monitoring, and controlling project schedules to ensure the successful planning and execution of construction projects. This role works closely with project teams to establish realistic timelines, track progress, identify risks, and implement corrective actions to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
Planning and Scheduling
- Develop detailed project schedules using Primavera P6 from project initiation through to completion.
- Create and maintain baseline programmes, resource-loaded schedules, and progress tracking systems.
- Develop work breakdown structures (WBS) and project milestones.
- Integrate engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities into comprehensive project schedules.
- Prepare short-term, medium-term, and long-term planning schedules.
Project Monitoring and Control
- Monitor project progress against approved baselines and identify schedule variances.
- Conduct critical path analysis and recommend recovery plans where required.
- Update project schedules regularly and provide accurate progress reports.
- Analyse delays, assess their impact on project completion dates, and propose mitigation measures.
- Support project teams in identifying and managing schedule-related risks.
Reporting
- Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports for project management and stakeholders.
- Generate schedule performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Present planning updates, forecasts, and recovery plans during project meetings.
- Provide earned value and schedule performance analysis where applicable.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Liaise with Project Managers, Site Managers, Engineers, Procurement, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment of project activities.
- Facilitate planning meetings and coordinate schedule updates with project teams.
- Ensure communication of critical milestones, constraints, and schedule risks.
Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to the development and improvement of planning processes and procedures.
- Ensure planning practices comply with company standards and project requirements.
- Support lessons learned reviews and project close-out activities.
Minimum Requirements:
Qualifications
- Degree or Diploma in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Project Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
- Primavera P6 Certification or demonstrable advanced proficiency in Primavera P6.
Experience
- Minimum 8 – 10 years’ experience in a Construction Planning role within civil, infrastructure, mining, industrial, or building projects.
- Proven experience developing and managing project schedules using Primavera P6.
- Experience in schedule analysis, critical path methodology (CPM), and progress reporting.
- Experience working on multiple projects simultaneously is advantageous.
Technical Skills (Added Advantage)
- Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6 (essential).
- Strong understanding of Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Knowledge of project controls, earned value management, and resource planning.
- Familiarity with construction methodologies and project lifecycle management.
